Cold War Photography: Łukasz Bąk. Leica Gallery

Only for 4 days, there will be a chance to see an amazing exhibition of shots made on the set of the “Cold War Photography” movie directed by Paweł Pawlikowski. The film received three 2019 Oscar nominations for Best Direction, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Cinematography.

At the time when the film crew will be preparing for the ceremony at the Dolby Theater, we will open an exhibition of Łukasz Bąk’s photographs entitled “Cold War Photography” on the third floor of the Mysia 3 Department Store in Warsaw. Exhibition organizers Leica 6×7 Gallery, Mysia 3, production company and film producer Opus Film invite for the opening night Sunday, February 24 at 6.00 pm. A few hours before announcing the Academy Awards winners!

Photographs made by Łukasz Bąk embody a fresh and original depiction of what was happening “in between”. The images represent an impression about the “Cold War’s” characters becoming at the same time an extraordinary opportunity to enter this fascinating world. The exhibition gives a unique chance to see dozens of black and white photographs. Showing a bit more than only a simple documentation of a movie set the shots also allow us to immerse in the atmosphere of Pawlikowski’s story.

One of the most important subjects of Bąk’s photography is light. Sometimes strong, contrasting, expressive, backlight, stage, sometimes gentle and soft – just like the relationship between the protagonists of this story.

The exhibition consists of a wide selection of photographs made on the film set, showing both the world presented in the film and situations from the backstage.

Three days later, as part of the closing day, there will be a meeting session with Łukasz Bąk and a discussion with special guests about photography and film.
