Austrian artists Jakob Lena Knebl (1970) and Ashley Hans Scheirl (1956) work separtely or as a duo. They’ve created a common space where their artworks can dialogue or merge. ‘Desire rooms’ – The folklore and fiction refer to the ghostly double or the alter-ego of a person.
The generous scenography draws on the codes of art and design, mixing ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture while tending towards the humorous and the grotesque. The installations generate a series of tensions and affects that lend the most recognisable and intriguing.
