Heri Dono. The Odyssey of Heridonology
The Odyssey of Heridonology – refers to a major series of works by Heri Dono, the celebrated Indonesian contemporary artist known for blending traditional Javanese imagery (especially wayang shadow-puppet forms) with satirical contemporary commentary. His work The Odyssey of Heridonology is a multi-panel painting project reflecting his artistic journey and themes from his long career.
The Odyssey of Heridonology is presented as a ten-piece set of paintings that encapsulates Heri Dono’s artistic evolution and engagement with Indonesian history, culture, political narratives, and his broader visual language.
This work, The Odyssey of Heridonology, is featured in the inaugural exhibition “From the Origin to the Future” at the Naoshima New Museum of Art (Benesse Art Site Naoshima).
At Naoshima, this work is shown alongside pieces by other influential contemporary artists (like Takashi Murakami, Aida Makoto, indieguerillas, etc.) as part of a broader narrative on art, society, and well-being shaped through Benesse’s longstanding art projects.
