The150th anniversary of the birth of Henri Matisse (1869-1954) is celebrating by exhibition at Centre Pompidou Paris. The exhibition is divided into nine chapters, and traces Matisse’s career along a chronological path, starting at his beginnings, around 1890, until the 1950s and his final work. The Matisse exhibition presents masterpieces from the collections of the National Museum of Modern Art, displayed on an unprecedented scale. The masterpieces come also from Matisse museums in France: Cateau-Cambrésis, Grenoble, Nice, and the generosity of the artist’s family and private collectors. Some of them have not been seen in France since the great retrospective devoted to Matisse in 1970 at Grand Palais.
