The exhibition Clair-Obscur brings together works from the Pinault Collection (modern + contemporary art) to explore how darkness and light shape perception, emotion, and meaning.
It’s designed as an immersive, atmospheric experience, where the museum itself becomes a “luminous and crepuscular landscape.”
Around 20–30 artists / ~100 works spanning different periods.
Key artists include:
Bill Viola (hypnotic video works)
Victor Man
Pierre Huyghe (installation Camata in the Rotunda)
Laura Lamiel (site-specific installations)
This isn’t just about painting technique. The show uses clair-obscur as a philosophical idea—how we understand reality through what is hidden as much as what is visible. It also connects classical influences (like Caravaggio) with contemporary art.
