Galerie Le 19M Paris. Beyond our horizons from Tokyo to Paris

Beyond Our Horizons: from Tokyo to Paris – is a contemporary art and craft exhibition presented at the Galerie Le 19M in Paris (Aubervilliers). It highlights collaborations between French and Japanese artisans, designers, and artists, exploring how traditional craftsmanship can inspire new creative forms.

The exhibition explores a dialogue between Japanese craftsmanship and French “métiers d’art”. It brings together the 11 craft houses based at le19M (embroidery, pleating, millinery, metalwork, etc.) with Japanese artisans and contemporary artists.

Some collaborations include: Japanese ajiro-bari weaving combined with French pleating techniques; ceramics by master Zengoro Eiraku decorated with embroidered motifs; experimental works in textiles, ceramics, paper, and installation art.

The scenography is organized in five sections inspired by the five elements: earth, water, fire, wind, void (air/space).

This structure reflects both Japanese philosophy and the relationship between nature and craft.

The exhibition gathers more than 30 creators, including: Xavier Veilhan, Simone Pheulpin, Jeanne Vicerial, Noritaka Tatehana, Mélanie Matranga.

The building Le 19M itself is worth visiting – it’s a cultural and craft hub linked to the fashion house Chanel where several prestigious artisan workshops are based.
