Erwin Wurm. Photographs. MEP Paris
The works of Erwin Wurm, an internationally renowned artist, from a new perspective, as part of the first retrospective devoted to his photographic approach. The Austrian artist is famous for his conceptual work combining sculpture, performance, video, drawing and photography, through which he combines playfulness and a deep sense of the absurd. His work often ironically and cynically questions our relationship to the body, frequently placing the viewer in a paradoxical relationship with objects.
Bringing together 200 prints produced since the 1980s present original contact sheets, prints and studies from the personal archives of the artist, most of which have never been presented to the public. This exhibition at MEP Paris unveils the unique role played by the medium of photography in the work of Erwin Wurm, exploring his creative process and his way of seeing photography as a form of “sculptural” expression. The artist refers to these works under the name of “photographic sculptures”.
