Fondation Cartier. New headquarters and exhibition space

Exposition Générale is the inaugural exhibition of the Fondation Cartier’s new headquarters. It is a major retrospective that celebrates 40 years of the foundation’s artistic activity.

Drawn entirely from the Fondation Cartier Collection. Nearly 600 artworks. More than 100 artists.

The exhibition is structured around four major themes, reflecting the foundation’s interests over four decades: Architecture & space, Living worlds / nature, Technology & new imaginaries, Science & knowledge.

The display uses the new building’s flexible architecture by Jean Nouvel, with adjustable platforms and open, vertical spaces.

Fondation Cartier is located in a historic Haussmann-era building originally built in 1855, then was a part of the Grands Magasins du Louvre, later the Louvre des Antiquaires.

The place was re-designed by the architect Jean Nouvel, and represents about 6 500 m² of exhibition space.
