Javier Ruiz Perez
Javier Ruiz Perez work is figurative, but with a twist, his paintings often feel like collages, or are built from “visual footage” collected from social media.
Subject matter commonly includes living figures (single or groups), flowers, still lifes, and Andalusian landscapes. His works tend to balance the familiar and the uncanny — credible yet strange, recognizable scenes or elements that also disturb or unsettle.
Javier Ruiz Perez exhibition at Galerie Droste in Paris, titled: I WANTED TO BE A SCARED ELEPHANT (“Quise ser un elefante asustado”) features paintings that mix images of humans, plants / flowers, landscapes in a mood of evening approaching dawn. It draws from an old tale The Elephant and the Moon. It plays with ideas of strength and fragility, light, and nostalgia.
Javier Ruiz Pérez (1989) born in La Carolina, Jaén, Spain where he lives and works.
