Ryan Gander

Ryan Gander often plays with ambiguity, fiction vs reality, absence/invisibility, hidden narratives. He sees art as a way not to give fixed answers, but to provoke questions or connections in the viewer.

Exhibition “YOU COMPLETE ME” at Pola Museum of Art, Hakone presents many new works (2024‑2025) and several are being shown in Japan for the first time.

“Are we still alone, are we happy?” – prompting questions about human connection, solitude or emotional states.

“Is there sound in the shadows?” – exploring perception, what’s present vs what’s hidden.

“Chronos Kairos, 3:02” – playing with time & temporality.

“You are repetitive and productive but you dream of being free” – suggests tension between habit/work/routine and aspiration/desire.
