The theme of Expo 2025 is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” with three subthemes: Saving Lives, Empowering Lives, Connecting Lives.

The Expo is meant to be a “People’s Living Lab”: more than just exhibits, it’s a testbed for new technologies, systems, ideas that can help address global challenges.

Focus areas include technology for sustainability: carbon neutral energy, circular economies, health & wellbeing, global cooperation, innovation.

Over 150 country pavilions plus many hosted by organizations, private sector, and governments. Architects involved include Shigeru Ban, Norman Foster, Lina Ghotmeh, Kengo Kuma, Yuko Nagayama, Nendo, Carlo Ratti, SANAA, etc.

One of impressive construction is a Grand Ring. A large wooden roof structure designed by Sou Fujimoto. It’s been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest wooden architectural structure by area.

We are also impressed by Null2 Pavilion, produced by media artist/researcher Yoichi Ochiai. The architectural design is by NOIZ architects, with others involved in robotics and engineering. Most of the pavilion’s outside is wrapped in a mirror‑membrane that reflects the landscape around it, including distortions, ripples, and deformations.
