Coraline de Chiara at Galerie Claire Gastaud in Paris
The exhibition “Veduta” Coraline de Chiara’s refers us to the Vedute, in particular those of Canaletto which represented perspectives of the Gran Canale of Venice. In her paintings, artist seems to channel the gaze: this word evokes both the fact of navigating on a river but also this idea of concentrating towards a point, of directing the gaze, of seeing between.
The exhibition brings together around fifteen paintings created in recent months, most of them serially. The “Interview” series represents striped curtains between which we see degraded skies, the “Vénitien” series represents landscapes obstructed by stores. Finally, certain paintings with painted circles evoke the light beams of the sun (star) or the emission of an explosion (disaster/disastro in Italian, “the bad star).
Coraline de Chiara (1982) lives and works in Paris, she graduated from the Ecole Supérieure Nationale des BeauxArts in Paris (Jean-Michel Alberola workshop), from the Ecole Européenne Supérieure de l’Image in Poitiers, she also studied at the School of Art Institute of Chicago.
